In 2006, The Pas & District Chamber of Commerce, with strong support from the Aseneskak Casino, launched a beautiful COMMEMORATIVE COIN; a special fundraiser and community promotion project.

Coins (photo)

The Project had several objectives:

1. To Raise funds for The Pas & District Chamber of Commerce.
2. To Help Chamber members (who chose to participate) by increasing foot traffic at their place of business as a result of having the coins available for sale as gifts.
3. To help businesses and organizations by providing a high quality affordable corporate gift for presention to guests and clients.
4. To promote the community to tourists and visitors both here and out of town (i.e. trade shows, meetings, etc.)
5. To provide a special keepsake for local citizens and former residents of the community.

The Coin Design

Coin - Side 1Side 1 depicts The Sam Waller Museum, a landmark historic building that has recently received Provincial recognition as an Official Manitoba Tourist Attraction! The museum features unique and unusual displays and the main gallery reflects cultural influences and community growth from the pre-contact period to the present day.

Coin - Side 2Side 2 depicts The Northern Manitoba Trappers’ Festival theme (a famous local winter festival since 1916). The image includes the highly recognizable landmark Trapper's Sign, located on Highway 10 at the south end of town and the husky dog image, representing the Famous Dog Races and the many images of the breed that are so common in the north. The husky featured on the coin was modeled after a K-9 citizen named “Casino”, well known to locals who see him and his owner walking about town.) This photo of  “Casino”  was also featured on the NORTH ROOTS magazine cover (February/March 2005 issue) and was one their most popular covers!

North of 53°” and “Adventure Territory” are frequently used local “slogans”.

Great Gifts that “Travel Well”
The coins can also be purchased by businesses and organizations in a variety of packaging, from plastic pouches and acrylic cases, to velvet display boxes. They make excellent corporate gifts which are small and easy to pack. We are confident that your friends, family, guests and clients will be impressed!

Long Term Availability
Now that the one year “Legal Tender” trading period is over, remaining coins will be available for purchase. The Chamber will continue to sell to any business who would like to continue to carry the coins or to any businesses or organization in need of corporate gifts for clients, visiting dignitaries, etc. The coins will be available as long as the stock lasts.
